CATs are assessments, taken at the beginning of Year 7 which help tell us about each pupil’s strengths and potential so that we can plan teaching programmes accordingly, and about areas which may need attention early on to support progress. The results help teachers plan for progress to take place, to set realistic achievement targets and to evaluate the progress being made for each pupil according to their potential. CATs are constructive assessments and will be used within the school to support the pupil. Information about pupils is kept by the school for use within the school and can be discussed with parents.
The CATs tests requires pupils to complete a four part assessment comprising of verbal, quantitative, non-verbal and spatial tests. This year the CATs tests will be completed online and have been arranged to take place for your child on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd October 2017.
May I stress, that there is no need for pupils to do any additional preparation, other than their normal homework tasks, ahead of these tests.
As I am sure you will appreciate the validity of the data generated by these tests is strongly related to the size of the sample group. Therefore, I would be grateful if you could ensure, as far as possible, that your child is in school on the days allocated to the CATs tests.
