Swimming Excellence

Our students excelled at the Powys school swim gala held in Newton on Friday.

Team captain Beth Nelson led the way with four gold medals  and three short course personal best times.

Stalwart year 8 students Hannah Marshall and Cerys Beckett picked up four medal s each in their individual races and relays and picked up another medal swimming up in the year 9/10 relay. Year 9  Amy Marshall showed her class and dedication to her sport by securing  medals in the year 9/10- relay and freestyle.

Year 9 Charlie Harries made a storming return to swimming after a year out and picked up three medals in the butterfly, breaststroke and the relay.

Other medal winners were Willow Irwin, James Johnston and Ewan Peel in the relays.

Cori Philips, Rowan Irwin both swam well winning their heats but just missed out on a medal with 2 4th places.

Other members of the team Partyk Bialawes, Isaac Pierce both swam well but found the race pace tough going  against the large number of experienced club swimmers in their age group.

With 6 Gwernyfed swimmer joining BHS on the bus and combining for the relays across the older age groups it was a happy bunch of swimmer that returned with 28 medals in total.
