The weather held for the majority of the day at the Powys school championships right up until the final relay races so there was a lot of good athletic on show from all 13 schools taking part over on the Penlan track.
BHS athletes performed well with wins for Simon Banyambu in the 200m , Katy Elliot in the hammer , Vian Van Staden in the hammer, Beth nelson in the 800m, Jayden Wilkinson in the 200m, Ishu Gaha in the shot Putt, Tom Gilbert, Dan Gilbert and Chloe Jones in their respective age groups in the 1km walk.
2nd places went to Harvey parsons in the high jump and hurdles, Newton Limbu in the long jump and javelin, Glesni Powell in the steeple chase.
In the relays the year 10 boys, Vian, Simon and Newton were leading but Llanfyllin dipped on the line to edge first place in 50.04 and Brecon in 50.06, “close”. The year 10 girls Amy Marshal, Catlin Davies, Megan Nicholas and Glesni Powell had a storming run to claim 3rd slot in their relay.
Year 7 girls Chelsea Cooke , Teagan Turner, Jasmine Bush and Evia Lorne ran really well in their first ever relay to claim 5th spot. Likewise the year 8/9 boys Oliver Pitt, Daniel Gilbert, Charlie Harries and Rory Orton came 5th in their relay.
Off the back of yesterday championships a number of Bhs students who finished 1st and in some cases 2nd In their events will now be receiving letters of selection for the county team competing at the Welsh school championships in Cardiff on July 7th .
Thank you to all year 7/8/9/10/11 students who turned out to represent the school, strived hard to give of their best and cheered on their fellow athletes with such enthusiasm; thanks also to the team captains Nyle Slade, Riley McLaughlin and Chloe Jones, Issac Pierce, Glesni and Harvey for their help in making the day a success.
The next track and field meet for the rest of Brecon high schools athletes is the NASUWT CUP in Newton on June 26th .
