On Thursday Feb 14th, 18 students from year 7 and 8 took part in an art workshop with Rachel Dunlop and Tessa Waite from Peak. The workshop entitled Words and Images, Words in Images, Words as Images introduced the pupils to the work of contemporary artist who had used text as art such as Tracey Emin and Barbara Kruger.
The pupils were asked to consider what they stood for and to consider what they would put into a text based art piece.
The pupils were really challenged as they had to consider what they stood for. They had just 20 minutes to consider and execute an idea using pen, charcoal paint and masking tape. They really had to exercise their creative thinking skills as well as consider the qualities of the media they selected but they rose to the challenge with great enthusiasm and imagination.
The workshop allowed pupils to have a taster of the opportunities available to pupils who take part in Crew Celf at Peak over February half term. Criw Celf is a week long art workshop funded by The Arts Council of Wales to facilitate pupils ages 11- 15 to work with practising artist and visit art galleries.
