Department Aims

The department is committed to maintaining and stimulating pupil interest and enjoyment in mathematics and to promote thinking and problem solving skills. A variety of activities and resources are used to enable pupils to work independently, as well as collaboratively and as part of a team, allowing them to use core skills such as communication and listening skills.

The department is further committed to enable pupils to be familiar with the knowledge, principles and vocabulary related to mathematics and to enable pupils to see that mathematics is central to our understanding of the world in which we live.


Key Stage 3

At Key Stage three the Mathematics course follows the criteria set out in the National Curriculum from level 3 to level 8.

Key Stage Four: GCSE

At Key Stage Four there is a two tier GCSE qualification where pupils are able to gain A* to C by sitting the higher tier or C-G by sitting the foundation tier. Both consist of two, two hour examinations taken in the summer.
