A Big well done to the eleven Brecon boys that attended the South Powys Schools Under 15’s team trials on the 7th and 8th of this month. All 11 Brecon High School Boys tried their very best throughout the 6 hours’ worth of trials over the two days and showed what skilful players they are. A team has now been put together to start training throughout the summer ready for the start of the season in September.
Congratulations to the four boys that have been selected from Brecon High School to represent the district at this level. Those who have been selected are Bryn Nicholl, Rhys Adams, Iestyn Phillips and Rory Orton. Iestyn Phillips and Rory Orton look to follow in Bryn’s footsteps by playing up a year for the South Powys team which is a noteworthy accomplishment. Playing up a year, as Bryn did last year, means you will have two years of district level rugby under your belt by the time it comes to the Blues regional trials and therefore a better chance of gaining selection. Representing your district in this under 15’s tournament is the first step on the rugby pathway to representing your region and country and so is not to be taken lightly. For those not selected they are reminded that this doesn’t mean that their chances are over or that they have missed their opportunity to get on the rugby pathway at this point. Those who continue to play well throughout next year can still make a case for themselves to be added into the squad, those who reach their rugby potential further down the line can still make cases for their involvement in regional and international rugby through other avenues such as college, university and club rugby.
Best of luck on the season to South Powys Schools U15s and the boys representing Brecon High School.
Tom Robinson (Rugby Officer).
